Flex / Flux
These Flex-Flux sculptural paintings on paper float two inches off the wall. The reverse side, painted a fluorescent color, reflects a soft colored glow on the wall that shifts in changing light. Often flaps or collaged pieces conceal and then reveal hidden passages and colors.
Subtle color differences fluctuate along a limited band of the spectrum evocative of a monochrome. However, there is monochrome mischief as these works insist on the inherent flux of color and not a static and purified reduction of a single hue.
Form is not a given. The process of making moves back and forth between shaping pieces of Fabriano paper and painting colors. It allows for a synaethetic melding and metamorphosis of the senses where shape suggests color and color, shape.
